What Does Blog Stand For?

If you are wondering, what does blog stand for, or what do the letters blog stand for, you will find that it really isn’t anything fancy. Rather it is just a word that evolved overtime.

Blogs emerged in the early 90’s as short diary like pages that one could write online. For the first time people would start sharing their opinions and experiences online for everyone to read. The format also resembled a traditional diary were the newer pages would overtake the older pages and could be updated regularly.

Early on there was no real name for these sites. But this all changed in December of 1997 when John Bagger decided that what they were really doing was logging their experiences and beliefs online, and so he coined the phrase, “weblog” or “web log”.

The name stuck and these sites would continue to be called “weblogs” until 1999 when a blogger Peter Merholz broke it up and added to his sidebar the words, “We Blog”. This indicated that, to “blog” was a verb, the process of updating a “weblog” and later it would become a noun as more and more people used it.

From that moment on the word “blog” was born and is just one interesting chapter in the history of blogs.
