There are a couple ways to go about it. The best way is to go to AnnualCreditReport.com. This is the only official site created by the three large credit companies. And the best part is, checking here does not affect your score like other websites.

The only downside is that you can only check your score one a year (hence the name). If you have already checked it you will have to wait 12 months before you can check it again.

Other Sites

There are other sites that claim to allow you to check your credit score for free, but most of these stunts are just gimmicks to get you to sign up for a monthly service. Most will get money from you one way or another, despite what they say.

That is why if you have already used your free annual check it is better to just pay $15 or so at one of the big credit report sites like, myfico.com or NationalCreditReport.com.

This way you will at least know you are dealing with a trustworthy site and may even save money doing it.
